On March 11, the Association of Professional Nurses of Saskatchewan (APNS) sent a letter to the Minister of Health following the March 9 announcement of the Patient-First Health Care Plan.
For years, APNS has been advocating for many of the very priorities highlighted in this plan. Safe staffing, expanding nursing education seats, and ensuring health professionals are supported to practice to their full scope.
In our letter, we also asked the Ministry to review and correct terminology used in the plan referencing Registered Practical Nurses. In Saskatchewan the correct designation is Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
These issues are not new to nurses across Saskatchewan, and APNS has been consistently raising them with government and health system leaders because they directly impact patient safety, workforce sustainability, and access to care.
Advocacy for nurses is at the heart of what APNS does. Our board and leadership continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the voices of nurses across Saskatchewan are heard when decisions about health care are being made. Progress in health policy does not happen by accident, it happens when nurses organize, speak up, and work together to influence the future of our profession.
APNS remains committed to constructive collaboration with government and partners, while continuing to advocate for policies that support nurses and improve care for Saskatchewan patients.
Strong nursing voices lead to stronger health care.
If you believe in advancing the nursing profession and ensuring nurses have a seat at the table, we invite you to become a member of APNS and join the movement advocating for nurses across Saskatchewan.
